Congratulations to the 25 families of Camberley School that graduated with Computers in Homes Hawkes Bay. It's always an ocassion to attend graduations as it reinforces how important projects like Computers in Homes is to Communities. The graduation was held at the Camberley Community Centre which is right next door to the School.

Deputy Principal/Computer Trainer/Techie Jason Williams has taken up the challenge to help support technology for Camberley School and it's families. Having the Deputy Principal champion the project has proven to be a positive step for educating not only the children but also their parents.

It was good to see families attend the launch of Computers in Homes at Maraenui Bilingual School. Lots of good question being asked, from the benefits of families registering, questions about what programmes are installed on the computer to the Internet. The final question was where can they sign and when is computer training going to start...

Having graduated with Richmond School the previous month, many families at Maraenui School had already heard of Computers in Homes and were keen to be apart of the project. There is a good message in the Community of Maraenui about Computers in Homes. The project has highlighted an encouragement for families to move forward with technology and most importantly provide their children with a computer in the home.

Camberley School - CIH Launch & Netpod Setup

Welcome Camberley School families to the Launch of Computers in Homes. A good meeting with families to discuss what the Computers in Homes project is all about. There were a few families that had heard about the project and like many families in Hawkes Bay, they too can remember when Computers in Homes first launched in Flaxmere in 2001. We agree with many of the families, it's great to Computers in Homes back in the sunny Hawkes Bay.

Not only did we present Computers in Homes project to Camberley School but we also had the families help us setup the Netpod of Computers in their computer training room. Thanks to Leon Symes for organising the delivery and setup of computers and also to Ivan Lomax for lending a helpful hand.

Computer training will be underway with families, Deputy Principal Jason Williams has taken on this role as Computer Tutor - Good luck to everyone and we hope you enjoy computer training.

Richmond School - Graduation

It's Graduation Day at Richmond School and a great day to spend celebrating with Computers in Homes families and children.

Congratulations to all the families who graduated and stepped up to the challenge of learning more about computers and technology. Thank you Matt O'Dowda and Paddy Wilson for supporting Computers in Homes in Richmond School. We have heard many good stories about the new computer room, from how enjoyable computer training is for families to the "open door" access to parents to learn during School hours. It is a great initiative to have a learning room available for parents. In Term 3 the Netpod of computers will be moved to the Community Room which is the new computer room. Parents wanting to continue learning will have the opportunity during School hours to take advantage of using that room. Good luck to your continued learning.

To all the families that emailed me during your computer training, good luck with your learning and keep the emails coming... It's great to hear updates about the benefits of having a computer in the home.

Richmond School - Computer Netpod Setup

Thanks Computers in Homes Hawkes Bay for helping to set up a Netpod of 10 Computers at Richmond School. A great day was enjoyed with Whaea Paddy, Whaea Lovey and students helping to carry boxes and hardware into the new Computer Room and then unwrapping those boxes to reveal their new Computers in Homes Netpod of Computers.

Check out the "thumbs up pics" from the group of children that helped to setup the new Computer Room for their parents and fellow students . A priceless experience to see the joy and excitement on these children's faces knowing that the Netpod was there for their parents and fellow students to undertake computer training at the School.

A big thanks to Leon Symes for helping to organise the setup of the computers and making sure that all the computers were connected to the Internet. And, thanks to Ivan Lomax - Regional Coordinator for Gisborne and Bay of Plenty who lent his support for the day.

Located in Kiwi Street, Hastings - Camberley School operates a wireless internet connection allowing students, staff and support staff to connect day to day school activities without the hassle of cables and cords. That's quite a big step in technology. We hope Computers in Homes will able to make a difference to the participating families that have registered with the programme. I look forward to meeting everyone for at the Computers in Homes launch planned for the end of May.

Computers in Homes Launch with Kimi Ora Community School

The Computers in Homes launch with Kimi Ora Community School has seen an opportunity for 25 families to become apart of the digital technology project in Hawkes Bay.

Families wanting to learn more about the Computers in Homes project attended the launch to register their familie's participation in the project. Principal Raewyn MacDonald said she was pleased to see a good turn out of families coming to the School to support a really good project.

Whaea Marama Henry has taken on the challenge to be the Computer Trainer to families. She will be starting computer training during the first week of the School holidays and into the 2nd Term of School. Matua Samuel Henry will be taking on the Computer Technician's role to assist families with their computers. What a good partnership to help support families and Computers in Homes in Flaxmere.

What a great turnout of families wanting to learn more about Computers in Homes. Thanks to Paddy and her teaching staff for organising those interested families to attend the presentation hui held in the Kura staff room.

From the beginning of April 2011, a classroom will be made available for a Netpod of Computers in Homes computers at Richmond School. This room will be the venue for computer training for families and it is hoped that the room will be a "permanent" learning base for families to freely come and learn on the computers.

Computer training for families will start around mid April, at this stage a date has yet to be confirmed.
